Monday, July 19, 2010 at 5:03AM What do You NEED?
There is a constant change happening in our society. It has continued with each generation and most likely should take a good percentage of the blame for our current economic difficulties. Our wants have slowly become our needs. It’s easy to see why, when we have money to spend, we spend it. When we don’t, we don’t. However, we are all feeling the effect of what happens when those “wants” became a part of our life’s routine and therefore become somewhat of a habit or a NEED.
Take for example if you were used to eating out for lunch with your coworkers 3 to 4 times a week. When the days where you needed to start “brown bagging it” rolled in, it wouldn’t be as easy to deal with if you had never started eating out 3 to 4 times a week in the first place. However, since you did have the luxury of eating out 3 to 4 times a week, your brown bag is a reminder of difficult times. Yes, it’s a subtle thought, but nonetheless, it does take it’s toll. Combine that with other “cut backs” you might be making and you can see where the mood of our country is at.
For our weekly challenge this week, with each purchase you make this week, I want you to ask yourself, “Do I need this?” and then make your decision that way. Don’t worry, it’s just for a week. However, it will make great strides in being a reminder at just how fortunate we are. Because not everyone in the world gets to ask that question, “Do I need this?” Many out there are begging, “Please, I really do need this!”
If you’re interested in turning your Weekly Challenge into a Level Three action, take whatever money you save that week by only buying things you need, and send it to someone who really does, NEED it. It’ll will lift you up for at least another week. Good Luck!
