Recently, there has become an increased emphasis being placed on emotional intelligence and it's role in both a person's personal life and professional career.  While emotional intelligence certainly does not take the place of basic job knowledge, it does dictate how this knowledge is communicated and the type of atmosphere that is created. Knowledge can make a person good, how that knowledge is communicated is what makes them great.  

As it relates to a person's career, emotional intelligence plays a critical role in job satisfaction, team compatibility, leadership style, and adaptability.   All of which are crucial for success in a competitive economy.
